Despite the nervous feeling of unfamiliar territory, Tex was enjoying the tranquility the room offered him. No boys running in every few minutes. No noisy hallways. Not having to share his entire life and what little belongings he had was a relief. He missed Billy the Kid, and he wished he could share everything he was experiencing, but finally having a room all to himself was to peaceful. “Sorry, Billy, you’ll have to understand,” he thought. After the refreshing shower, he changed into a new pair of shorts and shirt. He liked what he saw in the mirror. His skin was tanning like never before, slight highlights were starting to show on the tips of his hair. The new clothes added to his feeling of liberation from the main land. New crisp clothing. No second-hand-hand-me-downs. He slipped into his new leather sandals, and gave the mirror one more look. He felt older, more mature, more like a man. The things he had experienced in the last few days had changed him in an odd and strange way, but deep down inside he felt satisfied. For the first time in his life he was feeling lucky. Outside he glanced around, closed the door behind him, and found the walkway leading to the beach. He found it very interesting that he wanted to see the Jumper, almost more than finding Captain. He knew he would eventually find him, but first he wanted to make sure the old plane was secure. He spotted the Latitude Jumper in the distance. To the right he noticed people snoozing on towels. An examining glanced revealed they were all nude females. He spotted Captain swimming laps. At the end of the walkway he made out Joe’s sleeping body in the shade of a big umbrella. He was relieved to find Joe had shorts on. He stood admiring the tanned female glutes, but the one at the far end was the most pleasant. Her body gave her away. There was a glow and presence about her, far beyond the others. Her perfectly bronzed body radiated youth, pleasure, sexuality, and strangely, a calming effect. He remembered what Captain had told him, “Cartoon woman- right out of a man’s imagination.” A week ago he would have gawked and tripped over himself with fear. Today he admired the nakedness and continued to the plane. He thought,“Has to be Sexy D. And what’s up with these names.”

At the Jumper he felt like he was greeting and old friend. He instinctively looked for details Captain had taught him. Pilots notice any signs of change or tampering with their planes. This could keep any misfortunes from happening, and even save a life, but the fact was, he just loved the plane.

“Glad to see you’re alive,” Captain said as he swam up to the dock, pulled himself up and sat on the edge. “I was starting to wonder about you.”

“Good morning,” Tex replied. He sat on the dock next to him. “That kava is strong stuff.
